NO MAPS FOR THESE TERRITORIES by Vincent Forstenlechner, 2019–xxxx

No Maps for these Territories investigates how the concept of future technology is influencing our understanding of identity and ideology in the present time. Through an eclectic photographic approach the series connects and explores tropes of influences on society in times of technological progress and public surveillance. The title refers to the science fiction writer William Gibson, who famously predicted future technology like the internet and social media before they were invented. Gibson states that the concept of future is connected to our present and that changes in society and technology can be foreseen by closely observing the processes that are already happening around us. No Maps for these Territories depicts, digital devices, architecture and psychological laboratories to give a blueprint of a fictional concept of future which is generated from a visual investigation of our contemporary world.
